Park(ing) Day 2008
Originally created by Rebar, San Francisco art and design collective, PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks.
My former firm, Weber Thompson, along with landscape design firm, Berger Partnership, participated in this very worthy cause. I had the opportunity to be a part of the design team, and helped develop the concept, obtained many of the necessary materials for our “Urban Zen”, and was responsible for involving the community by working with a yoga instructor from Rain Fitness. Rain Fitness was kind enough to donate the time of their instructor to lead passersby in some basic yoga poses in our make shift pocket park. We were able to document this event, in real time, on the Weber Thompson blog. It was great to collaborate with fellow co-workers in a way that directly affects our community.
